On a 6.5-acre farm, Mr. Chennimalai earns ₹4.1 lakhs annually by growing coconuts and other crops naturally, showcasing self-sustained farming.

In the serene farmlands of Kinathukadavu, nestled in Coimbatore district, Mr. P. Chennimalai is quietly cultivating more than just coconuts — he’s nurturing a living model of natural, profitable, and sustainable farming.

A Self-Sustained Natural Farm

On his 6.5-acre farm, lovingly named Kuppusamy Gounder Thottam, Mr. Chennimalai follows organic practices to grow coconut, areca nut, nutmeg, and bananas. His philosophy is rooted in working with nature, not against it.

He enriches his land using traditional formulations like Amirtha Karaisal, Panchagavya, and bio-inoculants. His fields teem with earthworms and spiders, testifying to the ecological balance he’s restored. Indigenous Kangeyam cows are also integral to his farm system, providing vital inputs and maintaining sustainability.

Strong Yields, Stronger Commitment

From coconut cultivation alone, Mr. Chennimalai earns around ₹4.1 lakhs annually — that’s approximately ₹63,000 per acre per year, all through natural farming. Despite challenges like labor shortages and water constraints, he remains committed to chemical-free cultivation.

Eyes on the Future

What’s next? Oranges. With the same determination and nature-aligned approach, Mr. Chennimalai is now preparing to explore citrus cultivation, aiming to diversify both produce and income.

His farm is more than a source of livelihood — it’s a beacon of hope for farmers seeking profitability through sustainability. As soil fertility improves and biodiversity returns, his journey proves that natural farming is not just viable, but vital.
